01

What iFixHouse is

iFixHouse answers one homeowner question per page. What is this thing, is it actually broken, do I need to replace it, and what should that cost. It started as a YouTube channel and this site is its written home.

We are for the person who wants to be the one in the house who knows where the shutoff is. Not a hobbyist with a workshop, just someone who would rather understand the problem before the truck arrives.

02

The three answers

Every page ends in one of three places. You can handle this: we name the part, the usual price and the time it takes. You need a pro: we explain the job and what a fair quote includes. Shut it off now: we say what to turn off, and who to call.

We do not publish step-by-step repairs. We teach recognition and price, because that is what keeps you calm and keeps an estimate honest.

03

How we handle prices

Every price on iFixHouse carries the date it was checked and the source it came from. Costs move with region, season and materials, so a number without a date is not something we will print.

When a price is out of date we update it or take it down.

04

Safety lines we do not cross

We never tell a reader to do their own gas line work, electrical panel or live wiring work, structural work or asbestos removal. On those topics we explain what you are seeing and why it matters, then we say plainly that it is a job for a licensed professional.

If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas utility from outside. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone out and call 911.

05

What we are not

We are not contractors, plumbers, electricians or home inspectors, and we have not inspected your home. Building codes are set locally, so we do not say whether a repair meets code where you live; your local building office can.

iFixHouse is independent and is not affiliated with iFixit. If we ever link to a product we earn from, the page will say so next to the link.
